The device has a sensor detecting an obstacle and designed as a swingable rod (1). The swingable rod is connected with a moving device (2) for three-dimensional movement of the rod. The swingable rod stands in effective connection with a measuring and evaluation device (6) for the detection of acceleration change of the swingable rod. The measuring and evaluation device has an acceleration sensor (5) that is attached to the rod. An independent claim is also included for a method of detection of an obstacle in a locomotion direction of a locomotive object.
