A monocyclopentadienyl complex comprises a component of specific formula having cyclopentadienyl ligands bearing a bridged donor, i.e. bridged keto, thioketo, imino, and/or phosphino group. A monocyclopentadienyl complex comprises a component of formula Cp(-Z-C(R-1A)=A) mM-A (I). Cp : cyclopentadienyl system; Z : divalent bridge between Cp and C atom, which is bound to A and R-1A, where the shortest link comprises =1 atom of group 14 and an atom(s) of group 14, 15, or 16, and is not formed by an aromatic ring; A : O, S, NR-2A, or PR-2A; (R-1A)-(R-2A) : H, 1-22C-alkyl, 2-22C-alkenyl, 6-22C-aryl, arylalkyl having 1-10C in the alkyl radical and 6-20C in the aryl radical, NR-3A 2, N(SiR-3A 3) 2, OR-3A, OSiR-3A 3, or SiR-3A 3 (where the organic radicals (R-1A)-(R-2A) may also be substituted by halo, and two radicals (R-1A)-(R-2A) may also be joined to form a five-, six-, or seven-membered, nonaromatic ring); R-3A : H, 1-20C-alkyl, 2-20C-alkenyl, 6-20C-aryl, or arylalkyl having 1-10C atoms in the alkyl radical and 6-20C atoms in the aryl radical (1) (where two radicals R-3A may also be joined to form a five- or six-membered ring); M-A : Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, or an element of group 3 and the lanthanides; and m : 1, 2, or 3. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a catalyst system for olefin polymerization comprising a monocyclopentadienyl complex(es), optionally an organic or inorganic support, optionally activating compound(s), optionally further catalysts for olefin polymerization, and optionally metal compound(s) comprising a metal of group 1, 2, or 13; (2) a prepolymerized catalyst system comprising a catalyst system and linear 2-10C-1-alkene(s) polymerized onto it in a mass ratio of 1:0.1-1:1000 based on the catalyst system; and (3) a process for preparing polyolefins by polymerization or copolymerization of olefins in the presence of a catalyst system.
