The device has a coupling unit (7) for coupling/decoupling an electromagnetic signal to/from a wave guide (6). A receiving unit (8) receives and analyzes the decoupled signal. The guide exhibits a guide section (10), which guides the signal within a level of a container (2) in a direction of the container wall. The level is predetermined by an arrangement of the guide and by a position of the guide sections at the wave guide.
