The lamp includes an LED used as a light source, and a sensor for detecting at least part of the light irradiated from the LED. A control unit evaluates the output signals from the sensor and controls the LED based on the evaluated sensor signals. The control unit regulates the electric current supplied into the LED as a function of the sensor signals, such that the luminous intensity of the LED remains above a reference value. An independent claim is included for the operation method of the lamp.
