Inline printing system with a conventional printing line for fixed images followed by a digital printing system for overprinting with variable images

An inline printing system has a conventional printing press printing a fixed image onto sheets, e.g. company headed paper, followed by a digital printing system to add variable images, e.g. customer details. The sheets are take from the end roller (3) of the conventional press and passed onto a digital print cylinder (5) onto whose porous surface they are pressed by a pressure cylinder (6). The digital printing can be provided by a line of ink jet heads (7). The printed image is scanned (8) and the data fed back to a print control (13, 14).
