The system has two table units (3, 4) and a technical unit designed as a technical bridge (2). The table units adjoin one another with the edge side and longitudinal side below the bridge. The bridge spans over the table units and beyond a portion of respective tabletops (3a, 4a) in a self-supporting and free-standing manner. A function plate is arranged between the lateral sides of the bridge.
