A PCR primer pair (I) having a DNA sequence chosen from (a) DNA sequence comprising at least 10 contiguous bases of bases at position 1-300 of a fully defined 2228 base pair (SEQ ID No. 1, carboxyl esterase encoding sequence of Aphis gossypii Glover) sequence given in the specification, and (b) DNA sequence comprising at least 10 contiguous bases of a sequence complementary to bases at position 321-1898 of SEQ ID No. 1, is new. An independent claim is included for a kit (K1) for detecting insecticide resistant A.gossypii, which comprises (I).
