The device has a filter (22) with adaptive and non-adaptive modes to filter components of a received communication signal (62). The filter adapts to variations of the signal in the adaptive mode. The control unit has a detector (100,102,104) to sense whether the received signal contains a signal of interest and provides a detection signal with a hysteresis for shifting the filter between the modes. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a communication signal receiver (b) a process for reducing interference in a received communication signal (c) a method for processing an adaptive filter.
