Gas exchange valve`s control time determining method for internal combustion engine, involves calculating state function from change of pressure and volume of combustion chamber and determining instants for controlling valves

The method involves calculating a state function from change of pressure and volume of a combustion chamber. Instants for controlling gas exchange valves are determined using the state function. A polytropic exponent is determined from two control points of the pressure and the volume of the chamber in a polytropic range based on an operating mode in order to calculate the state function. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining control instants for gas exchange valves in an internal combustion engine.
