The method involves placing a girdling ring (1) around the base or collar (C) of the stem of a plant (P`) e.g. vegetable plant, when the plant is at the pre-growth stage or at the initial stage of its growth. The ring is placed in a position such that when the plant reaches an advanced or final stage of growth, the base or collar of the stem of the plant is narrowly girded on by the ring. An independent claim is also included for a multifunctional device for assisting plant cultivation.
