The pump has a centrifugal pump (1) for discharging a fire extinguishing liquid, and a detection unit (3) for detecting a cavitation phenomenon of the pump (1) based on a predetermined behavior law of operation parameters of the pump (1). An alarm device (6) is activated by the unit (3) when the phenomenon is identified to allow an operator and/or an electronic control unit (7) to intervene on the parameters of the pump (1). Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a method for detecting a cavitation phenomenon of a centrifugal pump of a fire engine or a fire pump; and (B) a computer program having program codes for executing a method of detecting a cavitation phenomenon of a centrifugal pump of a fire engine or fire pump.
