The system has a main memory (30), a transmission interface (20), a volatile memory (22) for storing computer starting information and a power supply (23) for providing power to the memory (22). An interface converter (21) provides a format conversion for a transmission signal between the interface and the memory (22). A CPU (11) reads the stored information through the interface and the converter to control the starting of a computer. The CPU authorizes the storing of the starting information in the main memory to permit the starting of the computer. An independent claim is also included for a method for rapidly starting a computer.
