PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recognizing iris that utilizes analysis of cumulative sum basis transition point and an apparatus thereof. PSOLUTION: The method for recognizing iris, by using analysis of cumulative sum basis transition point, includes the steps for transforming an iris image into an image of n×m pixel size into polar coordinates and dividing it into at least one or more cells; a step for grouping the divided iris images into at least one or more first groups, consisting of a preset number of cells and at least one or more second groups, consisting of cells whose number is greater than that of the cells forming the first groups; a step for analyzing the cumulative sum basis transition points, by making the preset characteristics value of each cell a representative value; and a step for generating a characteristic vector, by adding mutually different values to the cell which serves as a transition generated as a result of analysis and the remaining cells. Accordingly, the method has less computations than the method for recognizing iris that utilizes feature extraction of the existing wavelet transformation basis, and can recognize the iris by utilizing simple and efficient feature extraction.
