PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and an information processing method capable of preventing sound from being leaked to surrounding by suppressing a sound volume or the like of sound information outputted in response to an operating state of an apparatus depending on the comparison between an ordinary mode and a silence mode when the silence mode is set to the apparatus.;SOLUTION: The information processing apparatus monitors an operating state of the apparatus such as a printer and a mobile phone and provides an output of sound information in response to the operating state of the apparatus. Then an output form of the outputted sound information is set to the silence mode. When the information processing apparatus acquires the sound information in response to the operating state of the apparatus and the output form of the sound information is set to the silence mode, the information processing apparatus applies silence processing to the acquired sound information and outputs the sound information subjected to silence processing.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
