PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transport Chinese yams from an area of production to an area of consumption without reducing the weight of the Chinese yam while keeping the natural appearance thereof immediately after the harvest, and to store the Chinese yams for a long time.;SOLUTION: The Chinese yams 20 are arranged in a plurality of stages in a non-water-permeable container body 2 having a recessed groove 2a for water retention in an inner bottom surface. Open cell flexible polyurethane foam sheets 12 are arranged between the container body 2 and the Chinese yams 20, between the Chinese yams 20 in the adjacent stages, and the Chinese yams 20 and a lid 2. Preferably, the open cell flexible polyurethane foam sheets 12 between the container body 2 and the Chinese yams 20, and between the Chinese yams 20 and the lid 2 has double-layer configurations 12a and 12b, and the outer sheet 12b is hydrated with water of the required amount. In place of the double-layer configurations 12a and 12b, an open cell flexible polyurethane foam sheet 10 subjected to the profile working may be used, and hydrated.
