PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a comparatively simplified and accelerated method for collation by classifying feature point data into blocks.;SOLUTION: A coordinate range of feature points in file palm data registered in a file palm database 3 is divided into a plurality of blocks by using the number of blocks set by a manual operation and while using the range of one divided block and a reference point in the feature point coordinate range, a block range to become a collation target is designated. Feature points present within the designated block range are compared and collated with feature points of search palm data created by an input device 2. Besides, when a collation score obtained by collating the designated block range is less than a threshold, the collation is performed after expanding the collation range into free size within the feature point coordinate range.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
