PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precise geometric correction method for Landsat TM images enabling accurate geometric correction for an entire area of interest. SOLUTION: A geometric transformation containing a translation parameter included in system information provided along with a Landsat TM image is as follows: p-p0 =[cosθ0 *(x-x0 )-sinθ0 *(y-y0 )]/Δ; l-l0 =[-sinθ0 *(x-x0 )-cosθ0 *(y-y0 )]/Δ. A solar direct illumination image created using a numerical altitude model is used as a simulation image. An appropriate translation parameter is determined while using as an evaluation function a correlation function of the pixel values of the simulation image and the Landsat TM image.
