PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for controlling returning to starting point for transverse heat sealer of vertical bag-making, filling and packaging machine wherewith a pair of heater blocks of the machine can be returned easily and quickly to respective starting points thereof. ;SOLUTION: A control device for operating a control method for controlling returning of transverse heat sealers to the starting point is arranged separately from an unwinding route of packaging materials F in the direction wherein heater blocks 34 move for opening, and equipped with a starting point sensor 64 for detecting positions of the heater blocks 34, and a controller 48 which returns the heater blocks to the starting point for opening set by the detecting signal from the starting point sensor 64 and after that sets, based on the starting point for opening being a criterion, the starting point for closing on a position whereon the paired heater blocks come in contact with each other and stores the set starting point for closing in a memory.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
