PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recovering a catalyst from a catalyst body, capable of obtaining a good recovering rate and reusing a recovered catalyst without adopting a complicated purifying process.;SOLUTION: The catalyst body is composed of a base material wherein a catalyst layer is formed on at least a part of its surface. The method for recovering the catalyst from this catalyst body has (a) a step of forming a over-coat layer on a surface of the said catalyst layer and (b) a step of subjecting the catalyst body formed the said over-coat layer to a condition such that a difference generates between an expansion or a shrinking property that the said over-coat layer shows and the same properties that the said base material shows.
