The method involves partially liquefying a detection substance (6), placed in a zone of a cold enclosure, by an accidental rise in preservation temperature in the enclosure. A volume of the liquefied detection substance is displaced into another zone of the enclosure permitting a detection of the rise in temperature. The rise in temperature, which occurs in the enclosure, is quantified using a determination of the displaced volume of the liquefied detection substance. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting a rise in preservation temperature of a cold enclosure.
