METHODS FOR DETECTING A MUTANT ALLEY OF A GENE OF THE LARGE ACETOHROXY ACID SYNTASE SUN SUBUNITIES AND FOR ANALYZING AHASL OF THE WHEAT GENE, AND, KIT FOR DETERMINING A THANE OF A SEED MATIN PLANT A GENE OF WHEAT AHASL The invention relates to methods and compositions for analyzing large acetohydroxy acid synthase (AHASL) subunit genes. In particular, the invention relates to methods for detecting wild-type AHASL alleles and mutant AHASL alleles encoding imidazolinone tolerant AHASL proteins. The methods involve the use of PCR amplification and novel compositions comprising allele-specific and gene-specific primers to detect the presence of mutant and / or wild alleles present in the individual AHASL genes of a plant. Specifically, the methods and compositions are useful for analyzing the three Triticum aestivum AHASL genes and the two Triticum turgidum ssp.durum AHASL genes.
