Synthesis of intermediates of artemisin, used for fighting malaria, comprises isolating intermediates from chicory plant which produces amorpha-4,11-dienes

Artemisin intermediates located downstream from amorpha-4,11-dienes are isolated from a chicory plant which produces the latter. A synthesis method for producing one or more artemisin intermediates which are downstream from amorpha-4,11-dienes comprises the following steps: (A) providing a chicory plant which produces amorpha-4,11-dienes; (B) growing the plant; and (C) isolating one or more of the downstream intermediates from the plant. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) use of chicory for the production of artemisinin; and (2) method for producing artemisin comprising the above steps (a)-(c) and a further step (d) in which the artemisin intermediates are modified.
