Destruction of organic pollutants in water by ozonization in the presence of a cobalt containing catalyst. Process for catalytic ozonization with molecular ozone or an ozone-containing gas in the purification of polluted water, the ozone being activated with a catalyst comprising at least atoms of Co to promote advanced oxidation of the organic contaminants in the water such that the Total Organic Carbon (TOC) content of the water is converted into CO2.
