ELIMINATION OF FALSE NEGATIVES IN NUCLEIC ACID DETECTION

The present invention relates to a method for the elimination of falsenegative test results in assays for the detection ofamplified analyte nucleic acid in a sample. Prior to amplification, aninternal control is added to the sample, comprising a nucleicacid distinguishable from the analyte nucleic acid, that can be amplified withthe same amplification reagents as the analytenucleic acid. Preferably the internal control comprises a nucleic acidsequence corresponding to the analyte nucleic acid that hasbeen mutated to discriminate it from the analyte nucleic acid.
