METHOD FOR ACHIEVING THE SAME MILK COMPONENT YIELD IN RUMINANTS FED A LOW CRUDE PROTEIN DIET

A method is disclosed providing a more efficient and economical method offeeding ruminants a lower crude protein diet while stillachieving the same level of milk and milk component yield as ruminants fed anormal crude protein diet. Specifically, the method involvesfeeding ruminants an animal feed supplement comprising at least one rumenprotected protein in combination with a lower crude proteindiet. This method provides a unique approach to feed formulation in that itallows for up to a 50 % reduction in crude protein intake whilemaintaining the intestinal protein supply and milk component yield. This inturn results in a reduction of animal urinary nitrogen losses aswell as a reduction in feed costs.
