MAGNOLAN EXTRACTION METHOD FROM THE FLOWER OF MAGNOLIA SPECIES AND COSMETIC COMPOSITIONS USING MAGNOLAN

A method for extracting magnolan from Magnolia is provided to obtain the magnolan having skin cell proliferation and bio-synthesis promoting effect, skin immunity increasing effect, anti-oxidation effect and skin moisturizing effect, thereby being used for a cosmetic composition. The method for extracting magnolan from Magnolia comprises the steps of: (a) drying the Magnolia; (b) after extracting the dried Magnolia with ethanol to remove organic low molecular weight compounds therefrom, extracting the organic low molecules removed residue with water and concentrating it to obtain a water-soluble fraction; (c) saturating the water-soluble fraction with a water-saturated low aliphatic alcohol to precipitate it; and (d) dialyzing the material obtained from the step(c) to extract the magnolan having a sugar content of more than 99.0% and a molecular weight of 5,000-1,500,000 dalton. In the method, the Magnolia is at least one selected from the group consisting of Magnolia kobus A. P. DC., Magnolia liliflora DESR., and Magnolia denudata DESR. The cosmetic composition comprises 0.00001-60 wt.% o the magnolan extracted by the method above.
