A gypsum material for reducing the release of phosphorous from sediments of eutrophic lakes, which can reduce dissolution of sulfate and can inhibit methanogenesis at the same time by capping the sediments of eutrophic lakes using sand and gypsum granules prepared by granulating gypsum and adding silicon dioxide to the granulated gypsum, and a method for preparing the same are provided. A method for reducing the release of contaminants from sediments(2) of eutrophic lakes comprises capping the sediments of eutrophic lakes with a granule gypsum layer(4) obtained by granulating the mixture after mixing silicon dioxide(SiO2) with powder gypsum that is an oxidizer. The method further comprises secondly capping the granule gypsum layer with a sand layer(6) with a predetermined thickness. The granule gypsum layer is manufactured by mixing 10 to 100 weight parts of silicon dioxide with 100 weight parts of powder gypsum(CaSO42H2O), mixing 30 to 40 weight parts of water with an ordinary temperature with the mixture, kneading the resulting mixture, drying the kneaded material at 100 to 105 deg.C for one hour, cutting the dried material into granules with a predetermined size, and sintering the gypsum granules at 550 deg.C.
