The pliers comprise first (12) and second (14) legs which cross over at a pivot (18), a third leg (28) with a first extension piece (30) and first jaw (32), and a fourth leg (34) with a second extension piece (36) and second jaw (38). The third and fourth legs cross over at a second pivot (42), the axis of which is orientated parallel to the axis of the first pivot. A transmission component (44) is provided between a section (26) of the second leg and the extension piece (36) of the fourth leg.
