In apparatus for rapid production of shaped articles (1), comprising at lesat one article construction chamber (2) with an article support (5), a reservoir for particles (3), a driven annular doctor blade (6) for transporting particles from the reservoir to the chamber and a laser (4) for sintering and/or fusing the particles, at least one rotatably mounted roller is located in the annular doctor blade to compress the particles. The parent patent, , describes apparatus for rapid production of shaped articles (1), comprising at least one article construction chamber (2) with an article support (5), a reservoir for particles (3), a driven doctor blade (6) for transporting particles from the reservoir to the chamber and a laser (4). The laser beam is guided over the cross-sectional surface of the chamber and contacts the particle layer so that the particles (and any underlying layer(s)) are sintered and/or fused together. In this patent of addition, at least one rotatably mounted roller is located in the annular doctor blade to compress the particles.
