Measuring and analyzing components in exhaled respiratory gases comprises measuring changes in the markers in the gases with time. Curves representing the changes are compared by computer with theoretical curves and parameters for constant flow or stenosis respiration and actual values for them extrapolated and output. Alternatively values for separation of the markers with time and/or per unit of exhaled air are calculated. An independent claim is included for apparatus for carrying out the method comprising a meter (1) or sensor which determines parameters of the exhaled air and a second meter or sensor (2) which determines the amounts of markers. These are mounted in an air channel (3) and the data obtained by them is fed to a computer (4).
