The method for object tracking in radar systems for motor vehicles entails associating a radar signal, which is developed by means of multiple reflexion, with a tracked object in the near region, and continuing the tracking on the basis of the multiply reflected signal, with correction of the distance correspondingly to the order of the multiple reflexion. In the latter step, the relative speed of the object is corrected correspondingly to the order of the reflexion. An independent claim is included for a driver assistance system for motor vehicles in which is implemented the aforesaid method.
