The aid has components (2-5) including a signal rendering device and a microphone, where the rendering device acoustically renders a measuring signal to determine a seating of the aid or otoplastic in an auditory canal and the microphone receives the signal. A status report unit (6) controls the device and compares the signal with a given reference having a tolerance range, so that information with a status report about the seating of the aid is determined based on the comparison. An output device outputs the information to an external sending/receiving unit (7). An independent claim is also included for a method of determining a seating of a hearing aid or a hearing aid component in an auditory canal.
