The device has number of electrodes (3, 5, 7, 9) that are designed for attachment at body of a patient and for recording electrical signals of a heart. A processor unit is designed for deriving an electrocardiagram (EKG) from the received electrical signals. A memory has a reference EKG stored in it, and a comparison unit is connected with the processor unit for receiving the EKG derived from the signals and compares the derived EKG with the reference EKG. An individual EKG of the patients is stored as reference EKG. An independent claim is also included for a method for deriving a 12-channel-electrocardiagram from the signals of four electrodes in a portable electrocardiagram device.
