A process for the lubrication and cooling of rollers (3, 4, 5, 6) and the metal strip (2) during rolling, in particular during cold rolling of metal strips (2), it is proposed that on the inlet side (7a) a minimum quantity of pure lubricant (9) without a high proportion of water with a controlled viscosity and lubricity in dependence upon a plurality of process data (23) continuously online via a physical model (22) is applied and that the equivalent in this process data (23) at the side of the outlet (8a) via the physical model (22) also be used on-line.
