An accumulator (1) comprises negative electrode plates (2) joined together (8) with a contact sheet (7) and spring (8) to give electrical contact to a rectangular housing (3). The positive plates are electrically and mechanically connected to a shape (16) having a U-shaped base and arms and arranged to electrically connect to an adjacent accumulator.
