A magenta ink for ink-jet printing comprises a magenta chromophore dye (I) stabilized by adding steric hindering groups to protect the imino carbons. A magenta ink for ink-jet printing comprises a dye of formula (I). [Image] R 2methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl or halogen; R 3H, SO 3H, COOH or polyether group of formula -(OCH 2CH 2) n-OH; R 4H, SO 3H, COOH, CH 2SO 3H, CH 2COOH, C 2H 4SO 3H or C 2H 4COOH; R 5ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, (substituted) phenyl or R 4; R 6H, methyl, (substituted) amino, R 4, R 3or halogen; and n : 2-100. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) stabilizing chromophore dyes containing imino groups of formulae (VI) and (VII) comprising adding steric groups to protect the imino carbons. The steric groups are phenyl, methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, fluoride, bromide, chloride or iodide; and (2) stabilizing chromophore dyes comprising arms ending in cyanuric acid and/or melamine groups of formula (VIII), involving forming intramolecular hydrogen bonds between cyanuric acid and melamine groups.
