Sliver (5) is fed from cans (6) or bobbins to a drafting system and from there the yarn (2) is taken directly to a knitting machine (18). The drafting rollers (8, 10, 12) are driven by common or individual reluctance motors (26, 27) from common or individual frequency converters. Where individual motors are used, they can have a different number of poles. The reluctance motor drive for the knitting machine and the drive for the drafting system have a common controller.
