Device has a sensor (6) which is arranged in range of piston spray nozzle (5) which extends with position bottom dead center to free space. The free space (7) is formed by lower surface (8) and piston skirt (9) of lifting piston (2). The sensor is arranged transverse for translatory movement of lifting piston opposite to cylinder wall (4) of lifting piston machine. The piston skirt has marker (10) so that translatory movement of the lifting position results, change of signal at the sensor. An independent claim is also included for the method for the measurement of current position of lifting piston of lift piston machine.
