In vitro diagnosis, risk assessment and/or progress control of sepsis or generalized acute inflammation, by measuring level of immunoglobulin A and/or its derivative in patient sample
A method for in vitro diagnosis, risk assessment and/or progress control of sepsis or generalized acute inflammation involves measuring the level of immunoglobulin A (IgA) and/or its derivative in a patient sample; and determining the presence, progress and/or results of therapy of either disease on the basis of whether the level is higher or lower than that in a control group. Independent claims are included for: (1) a variant of the above method, in which the analyte (instead of IgA and/or its derivative) consists of one of more protein(s) (I) selected from IgA, haptoglobin-related protein (HRP), apolipoprotein A1 (APO A1), immunoglobin M (IgM), hemoglobin (or its subunits, especially the beta -chain), transthyretin, actin-beta (ACTB), actin-gamma and their derivatives; (2) the use of IgA or (I) for the production of antibodies for carrying out the processes and/or for use in the therapy of sepsis; and (3) a kit for diagnosis, risk assessment and/or progress control of sepsis or generalized acute inflammation, containing a component (A) for specifically recognizing IgA (or its derivative) of (I).
