The method for influencing moisture cross profile or moisture content of a paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web (1) in a region of a smoothing arrangement, comprises guiding the fibrous material web by a moisture conditioning chamber (2) or pre-conveying on the moisture conditioning chamber, which opens opposite to the fibrous material web, controlling the moisture in the chamber or its zones in dependence of a measurement of a parameter of the fibrous material web, which is measured after the chamber, and heating a side of the fibrous material in a smoothing gap. The method for influencing moisture cross profile or moisture content of a paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web (1) in a region of a smoothing arrangement, comprises guiding the fibrous material web by a moisture conditioning chamber (2) or pre-conveying on the moisture conditioning chamber, which opens opposite to the fibrous material web, controlling the moisture in the chamber or its zones in dependence of a measurement of a parameter of the fibrous material web, which is measured after the chamber, and heating a side of the fibrous material in a smoothing gap of the smoothing arrangement. The conditioning chamber is sub-divided into several zones arranged next to each other transverse to the web running direction (6). The temperature of the fibrous material is a measured parameter. The chamber presents itself below the smoothing gap. The moisture in the chamber is controlled, so that the moisture content of the web below the chamber is as large as above the smoothing gap. The fibrous material has a temperature of more than 120[deg] C after heating the surface of the fibrous material. The chamber has two edge zones, whose moistness is larger than in the intermediate zones. An independent claim is included for a device for influencing moisture cross profile or moisture content of a paper-, cardboard- or other fibrous material web in a region of a smoothing arrangement.
