The device has an essentially hollow cylindrical base body (10) or "bell" with several peripherally distributed thread cutting elements (36,37) on its leading end and a central non-rotating stop (16) coaxial to the base body on which the base body is rotatably mounted. It has a number of beveled burr removal elements (41,42) corresponding to the number of cutter elements mounted within the base body so as to rotate with it and able to move axially within tight limits.
