The method involves determining actual stopping area of a vehicle (1) e.g. lorry, and updating configuration of a vehicle functional element (2.1) based on the determined actual stopping area, where the vehicle is provided in a stopping area. Position data (PD) of the vehicle (1) is determined for the determination of the actual stopping area by a navigation system, portable radio device and traffic radio. The position data is supplied from a portable radio system (6), traffic-management-system (7) and a satellite-supported global positioning system (8). An independent claim is also included for a control device for the actualization of a configuration of a vehicle functional element of a vehicle.
