The method involves receiving several instructions, and recording a history of the received instructions. Another set of instructions are received at an instruction decoder (102). The history of the received instructions is used to determine whether the set of instructions received at the decoder are illegal instructions. The instruction decoder is stopped from decoding the instructions if the latter set of instructions is illegal instructions. Decoded instructions, which correspond to the latter set of instructions, are provided as an output. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an integrated circuit device (2) a memory device.
