The modular coffin is assembled of an inner case for the accommodation of the deceased and an outer shell to be positioned on top for the duration of the funeral. The case can be made of a comparatively cheap and ideally biodegradable material. The cover is of a decorative design, made of an expensive material and is removed after the funeral, cleaned and reused. Both parts are temporarily joined with suitable fasteners.
