The display has a set of weather-protected, energy-efficient, individually controllable lighting units e.g. LEDs, which are distributed on a spatial, two-dimensional carrier matrix for producing/generating a display image. The carrier matrix is structurally combined to a flat functional unit with a Photovoltaics generator and applies current for operating a display system, where the current is photovoltaically obtained over the generator surface.
