The assembly has a starter-generator comprising a synchronous generator (10) and an exciter (20) including rotors forming inductors and stators forming armatures, respectively. The rotor of the exciter is connected to the rotor of the generator. The rotor of the generator and the rotor of the exciter are mounted on a common shaft (60) forming a single part with a pinion (54) of a transmission unit (50). The unit (50) and the starter-generator are placed in a common case (52). The synchronous generator and the exciter are placed on both sides of the pinion.
