The sensor has a drive wheel (3) mounted in rotation with a rotating shaft of a motor vehicle, and a component (13) placed above a bipolar magnet (11) for measuring relative angular position of a measuring wheel (9). The drive wheel is divided into a specific number of uniformly distributed segments such that each absolute angular position of the shaft corresponds to a pair of values formed by the relative angular position and a segment position. A processing unit (33) calculates the absolute angular position of the shaft based on the relative angular position and positions of the segments.
