Protein, known as calconectin, able to bind a bivalent cation and a polypeptide sequence having at least 80% of identity with SEQ ID NO: 1 (having a defined sequence of 92 amino acid sequence, given in the specification), is new. An independent claim is included for an isolated polynucleotide comprising a first polynucleotide, which encodes the protein, a second polynucleotide complementary of the first polynucleotide, third polynucleotide capable of hybriding selectively, in stringent conditions with the first and second polynucleotide, and fourth polynucleotide having SEQ ID NO: 2 (comprising a fully defined 497 base pair, given the specification).
