The unit has a binder distribution assembly (8) and a fine gravel distribution assembly (7), each having a gauge subjected to an automatic control unit. A prescribing unit (10) prescribes different widths of location to a set point (200) for locating the binder and gravel in length in a direction of advanced frame and in width in a transverse direction of the assemblies . A control unit is designed for synchronizing the gauge of the assemblies on the location settings of the binder and the gravel, with respect to the frame. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a road surfacing unit (2) a computer program comprising program instructions for implementing a method for operating the road surfacing unit.
