Process of treating solid wastes polluted by mercury comprises oxidization of mercurial species and sulfidation of the oxidized mercury species in an alkaline medium. An independent claim is included for a process of fixation of elemental mercury, mercurial forms and associated metals present in the solid waste, comprising implementing the given treatment to form insoluble and stable metallic sulfides.
